  9. ​ @rikk319  You skipped a step there. It started to refer to all sorts of conspiracies from "the Man". Ever seen the movie Crash? Ludacris's character is a representation of that archetype. He even claimed the size on bus windows were a conspiracy. So for a long time you'd spit out unhinged takes and end with "stay woke, my brothers/sisters". The right only "co-opted" it after the term was dragged through the mud by legitimately insane people and possibly foreign bots. Same with SJW. Unhinged people on tumblr used that term. After it became associated with the utter insanity of 2010-2014 tumblr everyone stopped using it and just said the right made it up. It was not what happened.

  12. That's minimizing the weight of the term. It's associated with conspiracy theory. For example Soviet disinfo started the conspiracy that HIV had been created by the US as a bioweapon. It was called Operation INFEKTION and reasonably successful. So you'd say stuff like "AIDS was created to keep us down, stay woke my brothers". Leftist and black nationalist conspiracy theory were what drove "woke" into the lexicon.
