The Marines are no longer Army 2.0 and are focusing on the Pacific. Can't drive tanks over the ocean.

@deuspax "under continuous shelling they will leave the dangerous zone (check kherson experience)" - in Kherson the UA had to use the incompetence of Russians against them, the intelligence provided by the allies, and then launch dangerous assaults into suboptimal terrain. So basically you're gambling all in on your enemy being dumb, having the US use wallhack cheats for you to know where everyone is, and then you still have to fight uphill battles to cross the plains against a defending enemy. Even if your foe has no tanks, they can still defend and not leave. That's like expecting WWI to end because the enemy will just leave the trenches.

A swarm with only "basic armor" will get shredded by autocannon rounds dispensing tungsten cubes.

No. The Javelin is a tool to remove a particular chess piece from the chessboard. It cannot replace tank rounds.

No. Ukraine used tank offensives to break through in Kharkiv. It's not a symmetrical struggle, because Russia is defending an entire line, Ukraine has to punch through with concentrated mass. There's your asymmetry. Russia, learning? They're still committing the same mistakes they did in February. The asymmetric nature also has required Ukraine to take in unnecessary casualties when they are forced to stand and bang. If they had more means at their disposal, they'd suffer less. Less losses, less time necessary to lick wounds, more time causing successive frontline collapses.

He's wrong. Ukraine used tank offensives in Kharkiv.
1
No, he's wrong. He claims that without air superiority, tanks can't breach through lines and it's WWI all over again. However, Ukrainians breached the lines in Kharkiv with tanks. And they forced the Kherson retreat with tanks.
1
It's irrelevant. If you have air superiority but no proper targeting systems and PGMs (like Russia), tanks will breach through your lines. In Ukraine neither side has air superiority over the contested area, and yet tanks breach through lines. It's not that important, it changes nothing.

Imagine an autocannon shredding them all into pieces with airburst rounds.
1
No. He said that tanks can't help, it's WWI. Well, tanks were introduced to break the stalemate. In Kharkiv the Ukrainians showed that tank offensives breach through lines. Musk is oblivious about history and current happenings.

@sonnyday6830 If you read the tweet, it was.

Sounds like what Ritter said early in the war. 5 hits without kill is insane, it would have to somehow miss every vital component.
1
@Ayvengo21 There's footage of a tank hit in the barrel by a Javelin. The crew abandoned it and was rescued by another tank. It's not a one shot one kill, but the tank was "killed" just the same. I seriously doubt that after 4 hits there's no system, be it fuel or hydraulic lines, engine, drivetrain, crew, sighting, etc. that wasn't hit.

@skipperg4436 You'd need to know when the missile is launched.

@knifedance2402 Anti-tank weapons that are infantry portable were somewhat common decades ago, and non-so-portable anti tank weapons were highly common soon after the tank was deployed. The tank has always faced danger from infantry, it was known even in WW2 that tanks alone against infantry were picked off. Tanks are still extremely important. The survivability onion is more important than ever. Don't be seen, the infantry with AT weapons won't see you until it's too late. Don't be hit. If hit, make sure your crew survives so that you can pull them out of the hull and stick them back into another one.

@Victor-vj5ds How do you counter battery what's essentially a machine gun? Some of you people are out your damn minds.
1
@AkiraNakamoto Agility won't protect one from a shower of frag.
1
@Victor-vj5ds The point is that counter-battery radar tracks the trajectory of artillery shells. An autocannon firing rounds will not be detected due to horizon.
1
@AkiraNakamoto No. If something explodes, frag is thrown all around. You move up? You get frag. You dive down? Frag. Move to the left or right? Frag. And the autocannon has more power than a small drone.
1
@Victor-vj5ds Forget the horizon. There's modern systems with FLIR-style cameras which track objects. A little rat-ta-ta and the drones go down, and there's nobody to counter-battery it.
1
@AkiraNakamoto Okay? So your killer bots can detect the anti-air? It's not so much a paradigm shift, but the fact we haven't invested in SHORAD. We'll deal with drones just like we dealt with aircraft in the past. By shooting them full of holes.
