@sixgunsymphony7408 the US tested the 30mm against M48 tanks (to serve as T-55 analogues) and achieved very few penetrations. Drones carry a significant warhead and the pilot and pick and choose where to hit. An A-10 pilot would have to weave through terrain, dodge incoming fire, and aim at a tank 2500-2000 ft away with his naked eye.

@sixgunsymphony7408 Close means the friendly troops are in close contact with the enemy. You can drop munitions from anywhere to do CAS.

A-10 doesn't have A-A radar. It's got a cannon and a refueling port in the nose, where do you put the radar? It has a radar ALTIMETER, is that what you mean?

@WarpigA23 you don't have to outrun a missile - you only need it to run out of energy by the time it gets to you.

@thomaspinney4020 the other fixed wing aircraft shot dow as much as the A-10 were the Harrier (subsonic, massive IR signature) and the Tornado (low level attacker). While the Harrier and Tornado had to "learn their lesson" the A-10 gets praise. Tornados were reaasigned to mid altitude missions as the danger of low level runs forced the doctrine to be revised. But the A-10? Everything's fine.

@jerseyshoredroneservices225 Grim Reapers are plopping down units in a video game. In real life you don't get to pick neat enemy placements.

What do you mean without casualty rates? It's one of the most shot down airframes in the conflict.

@pogo1140 They had the A-7. The YA-7F Strikefighter program was canceled because the A-7 lost the flyoff against a YA-10.

@phillipfranco55 using the pod requires flying within sight of the enemy. On an A-10 you have to hug the ground. If you can see them, they can see you. And if they can see you, you don't want to be flying something that slow.

A SEAD campaign would require even more F-16 deliveries (with HTS pods and AGM-88s of a more modern variant) and SEAD doesn't eliminate MANPADS or manually aimed autocannons.
