The Battle for Kiev ended with an organized retreat. Which was probably the only competent operation the Russians managed in that axis of advance.

Because Blitzkrieg never existed in German doctrine. It was a term created by English-speaking journalists, but the doctrine was conventional German military doctrine for maneuver warfare. The only novelty was combined arms because aviation unlocked a new dimension in the battlespace.

Blitzkrieg is a term made up by the press. What people think a blitzkrieg is, is essentially maneuver warfare and combined arms. A thunder run is less conventional in the sense that you're still concentrating some force, but you use the breakthrough to gain temporary safety by going deep and thus evading enemy recon - your speed keeps you alive. That's why the attack is so risky, you may get bogged down, face too much resistance, get your lines of communication severed and trapped, etc. If you're just maneuvering in a conventional manner your advances are covered and you are more armed, better protected, etc but you also face the enemy frontline troops.

@pilotmanpaul What about it? There's reports that the attacks were planned before Kerch.
