  1. They used the "oppressed population" as human shields. They conscripted them in 2022 and used them in "recon by fire" aka let the enemy fire at you so we can spot their positions.

  5. They can easily access western media, but only people who already have a bone to pick with the government do that. Most prefer to assume everyone is lying, so they don't trust Russian media but also don't bother looking for the alternative. They become "apolitical".
