@bmyers7078 So they risked court martial. That's exactly why you should surrender instead of fleeing. Being a POW is better than facing desertion charges in a dictatorship.

@pyro1047 the imperial system is defined by metric. Yes, all the work done to derive metric units is the basis for imperial too.

@pyro1047 A 0,2°C difference isn't felt. I know 90°F is a hot day, but the 90 means nothing to me. It doesn't actually mean anything to you either. Just like 30°C doesn't actually mean anything to me, I've just grown acustomed to 30 C being a hot day. Imagine being a child without years of experience and learning about weather and the seasons. You didn't actually know what F temperatures meant to you. You had to feel those temperatures over time. As adults humans just grow too stubborn to learn new things and pretend they didn't have to learn and experience things as children.

That's not even true. It wasn't a CIA official, it April Glaspie - the ambassador in Iraq. You're kicking off this story with a lie, bringing up the CIA to increase the shadiness of the tale. But there was no cloak and dagger, it was the ambassador. It's all in the clear. You can't "assume" things. Putin assumed the Ukrainian army would stand down. Look at what happened. Dictators always going around assuming things. Conveniently always in their favor.

Russia has threatened nuclear war like 30 times in the past 20 years.

They weren't invisible. In 2014 journalists found that US soldiers who came in contact with the WMDs were suffering long term health effects but the government silenced. If the news got out Al Qaeda would start searching for the chemical warheads in Iraq for theselves.

That's called SHORAD or short range air defense. Often some older vehicles have to stop to fire because the commands they issue to missiles are based on relative position. Anyway the strike started when A-6 Intruders from the Marine Corps saw the convoy and dropped cluster bombs on it. Basically every Mk20 Rockeye bomb has more than 200 bomblets inside, and they have fragmentation, armor piercing and incendiary effects. So the first attack probably disabled or even scared off the crews of any anti air vehicle.

Those "coerced into fighting" had a golden opportunity after Desert Storm because popular revolts against Saddam happened. Those men "coerced into fighting" chose to brutally repress Iraqis demanding freedom rather than join them.

UN resolution 660 is dated August 1990 and the attack was in February 1991. They had months to comply and didn't.

Not true. They based the CoD mission on stuff that happened in Syria. They just named it Highway of Death because they use controvesy to drum up sales (No Russian, the Paris attacks in MW3, etc).

It didn't happen like that. Iraq asked about the oil dispute and the US's official position was not to intervene. The US never said an invasion was acceptable.

The soldiers who escaped Kuwait immediately went into Iraq to suppress rebellion against Saddam. If they were fighting unwillingly, they could have changed sides and fight for the people. Instead they brutally repressed them.

There's a "burden" on media because before modern tech the newspapers could paint a rosy picture of the war to keep the citizens willing to volunteer. So they have swung the pendulum and constantly reminding people of how bad it was.
