  1. So you're using some "documentary" (like those with the aliens lol) as proof? Dumbed down television bullshit. Slicing ice is useless as a test. The human error is very important (dude was not a trained sword fighter, he hits totally different spots). Also, they forgot that the swords would go dull and that bones exist in the human body. European swords and katanas were not used for the same purpose. Their philosophy of use was different and so was the armor they had to defeat.

  2. Because katanas were meant for quick slashing and not much else. By the way, that is not an effective way of disabling an opponent.

  3. Yes, but I thought the argument was on katanas. Not only they were not the primary weapon, the katanas produced were either a cheap weapon meant for regular soldiers or a symbol of the samurai. Mind that Europe also knew that spears were superior to sword fighting.
