@jericho1-4 Lockheed Martin won the ATF contract because the F-22 looked to be closer to "finished", being able to employ weapons at a stage where the prototype wasn't even required to. Meanwhile the weapons bay on the YF-23 was causing doubts due to the possibility of a jam. LM won the JSF program because the X-32 could not fly supersonic and use STOVL in the same configuration, the X-35 could. Also, the X-32 looked ugly which whether we like it or not influences decisions. As much criticism as one could direct at LM, at least the reasons why they won the contracts are crystal clear - they made the best prototypes. They put stuff in the real world, while Northrop and Boeing made promises on paper.

@jericho1-4 Whatever. Lockmart is better at winning contracts. It's not a conspiracy. Others want to dream, but their dreams take more time and effort than estimated. Lockmart wants to sell. And golly gee they make the sale. The F-22 having no kills in an age where air combat largely did not happen until the Ukraine war isn't the argument you think it is. Neither the Su-57 or J-20 have kills against manned craft.

@jericho1-4 The F-22 was deployed in Syria. It dropped bombs in combat. How is the F-22 a failure because the US is so powerful nobody wants to fight its armed forces? Yes, the Su-57 has been sitting idle - it's a bunch of prototypes. The J-20 gets as much action as the F-22. Excuse me, how many wars did the PLAAF fight in the last ten years for the J-20 to have combat deployments?
