@nikitatarsov5172 The batzillion arguments you got from Pierre Sprey?
2
@nikitatarsov5172 Because virtually all opinions on the F-35 come from a few dubious sources.

@nikolaivasilev7371 This is just a collection of pre-2015 talking points. Most of them aged lile milk.

@chaptermasterpedrokantor1623 At 110 million a pop, it's a 5th gen fighter for 4th gen prices. You want any other jet fighter that isn't a retired airframe from another country? You're paying 110M or more.
1
@nikolaivasilev7371 Doesn't matter. The stealth coating issue was difficult to isolate and replicate so a peacetime restriction on supersonic flight was issued. Doesn't affect the A model.

Better than a master of one.

Does the F-16 do too much? Does the Rafale do too much? Frequent sorties? Buddy Russia has crashed like 3 jets in the past week. Our enemies cannot beat our maintenance. It's their airplanes which are held together by spit and duct tape.

@JZ's BFF the F-117 was an incredibly crude design necessitated by weaker computing power in the 70s.

The thing is, almost no fighters achieve their "max speed". On an intercept they're either incoming or running away. If they're incoming, their own speed benefits your missile launches. If they're on the run, mission acomplished.

King of what, Victory Day parade?

And this affected almost all aircraft with ejection seats, not just F-35s.

The manufacturer is Lockheed Martin.

Seven Harriers were lost in Desert Storm due to the exhaust "painting" the sides of the aircraft with heat and giving a huge IR beacon for SAMs. Rugged means nothing after direct impact from a missile.
1
@PrograError everyone is trying to make stealth aircraft
1
@MrMorvana the F-117 was retired because it was old.
1
The 25mm gun is almost as capable as the 30mm gun in the A-10. The A-10 also should be used with guided bombs, missiles and rockets.
1
@MrMorvana Low frequency radar was already used by older radars and early warning radars. It doesn't matter. This was a known issue.
1
The F-35 is one of the longest range fighters in service.

Pierre Sprey was a Russia Today disinfo agent.

1) The fact is that while different airframes distribute the capabilities, the costs and logistical issues of single role airframes are just not sustainable. On a carrier the more airframes, the more maintainers and parts are required. When volume is at a premium, the loss in capabilities will affect everything but the largest carriers. 2) Regarding the Harrier, it was built for ground attack - its engine and nozzle arrangement, the airframe, etc were optimized for the STOVL mission and developing an advanced fighter like that on Cold War technology hit too many hurdles. Today, you can get STOVL and 5th gen performance with only moderate sacrifices made. We aren't limited by the Harrier anymore, we don't make Harriers into fighters - we take a fighter and make it do what the Harrier did.

It's an excellent multitool. Take a F-16, feed it steroids, give it the ears of a bat and the eyes of a falcon.
1
The Su-57 with panel gaps and exposed screws. 16 made, 2 crashed.
1
Why is the Harrier better?
1
Because of an accident?
