  5. Not all animals are affected equally. Some insect populations have been greatly reduced due to them laying eggs on radioactive soil. Deformities in cattle born in the area were recorded after the disaster but subsided as the months passed. Another aspect is life span. Humans live long lives. One issue with exposure is that one can get enough to increase the risk of cancer later in life, but not be immediately harmful. There's the famous case of older people in Japan volunteering for the Fukushima cleanup because they knew they wouldn't live long enough to get cancer.
