@laurancerobinson "Experts are not infallible" - but somehow the average Army trained bloke living in a country where he can't own any semi-auto centrefire for comparison is
13
@rogersmith7396 Air superiority is an entirely different domain. You don't say "the tank is dead because the enemy has planes" because that's like saying "infantry is dead because the enemy has machine guns".
13
Fox Ace the "alt right" always existed, it's nothing new, /pol/ has behaved that way for over 10 years and people have said the same thing for decades. They only control alternative media and fringe websites. If they were a real threat, you wouldn't know about them until they were in control of the schools and media.
12
Just like the pilots in Vietnam were not trained in the energy-fighting tactics previously used to defeat the more nimble Japanese planes in WWII.
11
@laurancerobinson the studies and tests that determined that HK had to come along and fix the damned thing?
10
@laurancerobinson this argument is useless if you're not willing to say which studies you're even referring to. I tried to find them on my own and came across the LANDSET Report, which the MoD apparently tried to claim was fake and then later admitted to be real. Classy.

+Jim Fortune "The American M-60 is a machine gun. It was not heavily influenced by the design of an assault rifle" You are cordially invited to look at the goddamn FG-42 bolt and realize that M60 design copied it, even the spring used to assist semi-auto primer ignition, which is useless in the M60 but they copied it anyway.
7
+BorkaBonum because it encompasses two different guns, which leads to confusion, and was already the nickname for a WWI machine gun. Everyone knows what a Grease Gun is. If you say "Spandau" I'll actually assume you're talking about 80's music.
5
+Titytit Mk2 I somehow highly doubt that any gun on full auto could put two bullets on the same hole unless by 1 in a billion chance or the target is an inch from the muzzle. Not even an ultra-controllable Ultimax 100 firing 5.56, let alone a .303.
5
@noobster4779 Even rockets are kind of a last resort. These days a laser guided bomb or a guided missile are lobbed from miles away, as rockets require the launching aircraft almost as close as if it was going to use the gun.
5
At least a thunder run is something we can describe and point to examples of, "bltizkrieg" seems like you hit them with the Up+Up+Down+Down+Left+Right+Left+Right+B+A+Start combo.
5
@cstgraphpads2091 the issue is that long range in a tank's gun means nothing when the AT weapon suddenly comes out from behind a tree 70-50 meters away. There's still footage coming out of Ukrainian forces being able to get close to armored vehicles and fire unguided weapons at them.
5
I'm still laughing. The tank being "used properly" is less efficient that proper SPGs due to accuracy, range and barrel life concerns, while being too vulnerable to cheap FPV RPG-7s. Please. I wish all Russian SPGs could be magically turned into T-62s. I'd laugh so much harder.
5
@chrisreynolds6143 I think it did.
4
@yannickvanwallenburg9724 Shot is usually carried by a shot cup, just like in a shotgun, so there's no contact between rifling and the projectiles.
4
I wouldn't be mocking if I took a heavy rock to the face. However, if you have to show up to a shooting war and your weapon is just chucking rocks, that's deserving of mockery.
4
@chrisreynolds6143 why?
3
@chrisreynolds6143 being 21 honestly doesn't improve your case. You call me an arrogant nutbag simply because I made a sly remark about your borderline deranged posts, you have delusions of grandeur, you glamorize violence you don't have the balls to commit. You parrot phrases like "leader of free world" not because you understand them but because they score a point in a debate. Despite your attempt to... I don't know, pretend to be a centrist, you still couldn't help but reveal your power level by whipping out edgy commie lingo. All in all, you kinda need to grow up.
3
@zorkgreywind509 And there's videos of armored vehicles getting pelted with artillery or rolling over landmines in the plains. So what?
3
If you put a 800hp motor I think you'll just asplode the entire transmission.
3
800 over three years. They can't make up for the losses.
3
@sagatlike3393 "Doesn't need to be sophisticated as long as it will work" - Well it needs sophistication to work. China already has a Javelin equivalent. It's called the HJ-12. It would help if you knew what you were talking about instead of making stuff up.

@chrisreynolds6143 and the Clintons were friends with Robert Byrd. What you're saying reminds me of Enoch Powell speaking against immigration and then being blamed for assaults against Pakistanis living in Britain. In an interview he was getting cornered with the same type of argument to which he responded: "I am not going to start condemning the behaviour of people who are condemned by their own actions [...] I am not going to be put in the absurd position of dissociating myself from people who have nothing to do with me and whom I have never met and do not know." And you know why he said that? Because of this: https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/fact-checker/wp/2016/03/01/donald-trump-and-david-duke-for-the-record/?utm_term=.6d860b8b5c08 By no means am I saying it's the most comprehensive list of statements Trump has made about David Duke. Yeah it's strange that he was aware of David Duke in the 90's and not anymore. But he has disavowed Duke. Could you accuse him of having hesitated on Feb 28 2016? Surely. I'll take it. But he has disavowed Duke. But yet you still claim he didn't. That's what happens when you are put in the absurd position of having to dissociate yourself from all the bad elements that could somehow be linked to you. Even if everyone was 100% on the same page about Duke, would Trump be excused from any accusation of being a white supremacist? Of course not. Trump could personally hunt down Duke and kill him with his bare hands and people would just say they faked it so that Trump can pretend he isn't racist.
2
@chrisreynolds6143 >"I mean our president-elect couldn't denounce Grand Wizard of the Klan, David Duke" >"I didn't bring up trump but thanks" ????? it's 1am and I'm only getting extremely confusing replies either everyone's gone insane or my brain is toast
2
@chrisreynolds6143 "If a Nazi told me you were a good guy, id probably treat you exactly like is expected" - guilt by association? "if you're the leader of the free world" - lame expression, Trump cannot lead anything outside the US and there is no such a thing as the "free world". It's not the 80's anymore, grandpa. "I expect maybe a higher standard" - ???? a higher standard of what? "P.S. all Nazis should be shot and abolish private property ;) dueces" - edgy
2
@jmackmcneill That's only true up to a point. There are bottlenecks such as the sensors used.
2
@apis_aculei there's a difference between inability to shrug off a Javelin and getting penned by RPG 7.
2
@cattledog901 You think a highly maneuverable FPV drone won't explode your silly little 213mm rockets from greater range than you can toss them? You and me. You get in this death trap loaded full of explosives, I fly a drone. Let's see who wins. Sign a waiver.
2
@therandomheretek5403 The Chinese already have the HJ-12.
2
@dwarow2508 Russia actually had to import T-34s for parades because of the low number of T-34s in good condition.
2
And the videos of it firing show the mount shakes violently. Dispersion is probably a hundred meters at 1km.
2
They already took pictures of themselves posing in front of T-55s after arriving on theater.
2
@phunkracy The trucks were made for National Guard and rear echelon units. It was controversial enough that the military had to order uparmoring kits for utility vehicles. The guys who did the gun trucks weren't fighting an enemy army. They were non-infantry guys who felt unsafe in a country where the insurgency could be anywhere.
2
@phunkracy Again, the US had no "frontline" so any random person could whip out a weapon and start taking potshots at rear echelon units. Logistics and supply units felt unsafe. So they welded metal to their trucks. It wasn't a serious warfighting weapon. Guys. Felt. Unsafe. Non-combat troops. That's all.
2
What if you're just heating up the air that goes into the intake instead of the steel? No need to heat the outer sheet metal on the oven, just feed it hot air.
2
HEAT rounds do not depend on kinetic energy, and a wider bore means more force applied to the projectile per unit of pressure.
2
@warbrain1053 Light infantry today... isn't. Light infantry is famously more burdened than mechanized units because they can't just being all the stuff on wheels.
2
+Jan Schlossar how many AR-15 rifles have you fired?
1
Active protection systems have a minimum activation speed of something like 70 m/s or else they'd go off due to nearby infantry throwing grenades or even birds flying.
1
Laughing at how many of these deathtraps are getting wrecked is a non-stop source of comedy.
1
If you are being forced to use this, you don't have the tube and rocket artillery to properly soften the position. War is about resources and you always have a shortage of something. You aren't given the option. You're given this instead of proper fire support. Just like drones wouldn't be used if aircraft were in the sky picking off the enemy. That's how it works.
1
They're bringing T-55s now, where's the mass production?
1
The 88mm was a beast of a tank cannon, the Tiger crews were even instructed to not fire the gun if the muzzle break was damaged because the recoil would be excessive. This is a freaking joke. And kamikaze attacks were pure desperation too. If you can't do conventional air attacks in a war that made aircraft carriers the shining star of naval power, you're getting beat. Jesus Christ only this war could get the people who say kamikaze attacks were actually smart to come out of the woodwork.
1
The US had to ship canned food to save them from famine.
1
@kell7195 And what happens when the other 5/6ths are deployed? China, Japan and Finland just take what they want from undefended areas?
1
@kell7195 Russia is pivotal to China's survival = this war is going to well China will get to use Russia as a vassal state. Being enslaved to the Chinese is a fate too grim, shame Russia couldn't handle this peacefully.
1
Pure concern trolling. If anything, the war has denied those recruiters the easy prey.
1
Now drive these rockets to the front with FPV RPG-7s flying around. When they all go off, it's certainly going to do something to everyone around them.
1
Fine. I want the entire Russian army to be outfitted with just this. It's a great weapon. I wish I could snap my fingers to trade every Russian tank, IFV, helicopter, fighter and bomber for these. Don't mock!!!
1
@vonvonvonvonvonvonvonvonvo7009 It is. I took what you said at face value. Don't mock!
