Except that for example in Europe countries don't buy more coal or gas if their neighbors use nuclear. They just buy energy from the next door country. Why waste billions in plants and fuel imports when the nuclear reactor right there is just pumping out juice?

It was also a massive Russian psyops to get Europe hooked on natural gas. People were worried because they were constantly reminded they had to be worried.

@FerroEquus-262 Not true. The Fukushima reactor, despite being outdated, survived the tsunami. Safety protocol required shutting off the pumps and they could not restart it. The failure wasn't the nuclear power, it was electrical.
1
@playnochat it's a misconception that the tsunami damaged the core. The tsunami was easily survivable even with an inadequate sea wall. The problem was that all the equipment necessary to restart the pumps was in a flooded basement, and the pumps were shut down to obey safety protocol.

@stefansikora5183 coal plants in average kill more people in one year than Chernobyl and Fukushima combined.

Denuclearization was a literal Russian psyops to get Europe hooked on their natural gas. Namecalling is a natural reaction to people who sold off our prosperity.

Russians can't be trusted to boil water, what else is new? They literally had to push the reactor to its limits to get it to burst.
1
Huh I wonder if the low water levels have to do with our burning of fossil fuel.

@FerroEquus-262 Coal plants burn off stuff we dug up from the depths, so there's radioactive elements in it. Burning coal releases more radiation than active nuclear plants during its operation.

Nuclear waste disposal has been solved. People just reject every proposal and pretend there's none.

Fukushima is not uninhabitable. There's just no jobs and Japan pays a stipend to the relocated. So nobody wants to go back. Who'd want to rebuild their flood damaged house while having no income?
