  2. No, the stuff was stolen. This was a problem that went undetected for years but for example airsoft players could get Russian kit to play. And everyone knew the stuff was stolen, but it's uniforms so who cares? But then the helmets and armor plates started showing up online too. And there was an entire black market of stolen Russian gear. The guys being called up, they're not real reservists. Anyone who spent the 1 year in the army (mandatory with few exceptions) is considered a "reservist". The real reservists are the BARS units and they've been fighting in Ukraine for months.

  3. Well, not Hello Kitty but a Russian company had a funding drive to collect money for equipment for the soldiers - they bought camouflage backpacks from the commercial market. They were Playerunknown's Battlegrounds (PUBG) backpacks, videogame merchandise.

  4.  @ChR1St0p4eR  Russia pulled troops from elsewhere, had reservist and volunteer battalions, hired PMCs and then started recruiting prisoners. Russia had "shadow mobilization" for months.
