  8. Buk seems effective against drones, incoming cruise missiles, etc from what we've seen in Ukraine. They should be ahead of S-300 or S-400 batteries as a protective layer. Pantsir/Tor should be the last resort to protect them, but they seem to not be dependable. If an incoming missile is about to hit and nobody in the S-400 notices, it might be too late for the Pantsir/Tor to react.

  22. That doesn't make any sense. Paratroopers or cargo never go into airspace that's still defended. If it doesn't "waste" itself on F-35s, the F-35s will simply drop bombs on it. The US faced SAMs in Vietnam and Iraq. Syria doesn't have handheld rockets. They have S-300s.

  23.  @stephendoherty8291  The VDV are paratroopers, they did air assaults instead of airborne insertions. Airlifting out of Crimea is extremely dangerous. Crimea was under control of Ukraine for decades, so special forces know how to get in and out. They've done raids there after 2014, in one they were caught and had to shoot their way out. Trying to airlift them under SAM coverage is suicide.

  43. That doesn't make ANY sense. The F-22 and YF-23 are, like the F-15, an over-engineered and overpriced aircraft that beats everything in the air. It's just too expensive. So a smaller number of expensive, large, twin engine air superiority fighters are purchased. To make up for the low numbers, a smaller and cheaper multirole aircraft is purchased in high numbers. That was the F-16 in the F-15s case. The YF-23 would still need the smaller and cheaper F-35 to exist in large numbers.
