  12. Territory is a function of what both sides can take and hold. Russia's attacks show they want the territory, the glacier pace of the line advances show what's happening to Russians in said attacks. They're not coming back.

  19. ​ @paulbaumer8210  NATO production of 155mm can cover needs because naval and air power debilitates the enemy before boots on the ground, requiring less artillery. If you want to mess with NATO, you're going to first be hit with Tomahawks, B-2s, F-35s, etc. and not 155mm.

  24. How doesn't it make sense? After taking Bakhmut the Russian army would have options. Right now, they don't. They either assault Bakhmut, or suffer debacles like in Vuhledar. Ukraine could pull out of Bakhmut. But then Russia could recover. Remember how after Severodonetsk they needed an operational pause? Well, now they're in need of a pause. But they have to keep fighting. From Ukraine's perspective, Russia is falling on its own sword at Bakhmut so it's worth to hold it instead of fighting elsewhere.

  28. The coalition stopped when they faced resistance and split forces to continue deep advances unopposed. Iraqi forces set themselves in defensive rings but the coalition refused to take the bait and simply pressed forward towards the political centers of gravity. Had the US/UK/AUS/Poland engaged in heavy city fighting to capture each city, they'd have taken massive losses. But the coalition fought smart. Russia is incapable of doing so.

  30. ​ @b12n23  The successful tactical retreat was an outcome that handed Ukraine victory on a silver platter. Kharkiv was undermanned to avoid giving up Kherson. Then Kharkiv was attacked. And looking at a losing fighting, Russians gave up Kherson. They gave up Kharkiv to not give up Kherson. They gave up Kherson. Let this sink in.

  31.  @b12n23  They didn't burn through. Most of the captured materiel ended up being in unrepairable condition. Some of the captured tanks were on repair depots without parts. Some were missing engines. The photos show open engine bays with nothing in them.

  32.  @macilowiecki9158  Any satellite picture of Ukrainian fields show vast empty landscapes pockmarked with craters. Russians were shooting at nothing. There's also the constant begging for ammo.

  33. If Russia has the advantage in firepower, that results in the frontline moving. Because they can't, either shelling is reduced due to strained supplies, or the firepower is wasted by misses.
