  3. Turboprop planes are cheaper to operate but often not fast enough. And most do not have radar systems. Aircraft radars must draw power from a gearbox connected to the jet engine shaft (much like a car's alternator) so powerful jet engines are required. Turboprop engines are somewhat on the smaller size except for large cargo planes.
