@ericmurray2213 The common cold is caused by several different kinds of viruses so it makes sense that one won't create cross immunity for the other.

@ericmurray2213 Not the same. If you catch the common cold from a coronavirus in a year, you can then get it from a rhinovirus or adenovirus. It's not due to rapid mutation but the fact that there's 200 different virus that can give you the common cold. Funnily enough exposure to the common cold causing coronaviruses gave a high degree of cross immunity against sars cov 2. But that's changed because Omicron is so different.

@vfr800ification The exact same thing happened to me. I interacted with customers who had just come back from the chinese new year celebrations, got a high fever and ibuprofen + paracetamol made me feel alright and went back to work the next day because I thought it was just a flu or cold. Then later I was exposed to 5 people who were positive and didn't get sick. I probably had protection against the following strains up to Delta, because I got Omicron as soon as it popped up. And it was the exact same thing, fever for one day and then it's gone. Same as Feb 2020.
