  1. ​ @B-...  the self-defense was unrelated to the crime. In the US a guy who was doing credit card fraud was raided. The cops didn't announce the raid and kicked in with no knock. Criminal started blasting. Though guilty of credit card fraud he was exonerated of the shooting because police looked like home invaders. Someone being a criminal doesn't make home invasion legal.

One guy fired warning shots at people firebombing his house and he spent 2 years in court because prosecution argued that if he had time to retrieve his firearm and load it he wasn't obeying safe storage laws. You can use your firearm in Canada, but by law it must be stored separately from ammunition so be ready to explain how you loaded it in time.
