  1. No offense but they very much did care about skin textures. I remember when subsurface scattering became the hot new thing. Also mouth movements. Speech animations were a big deal. 2000's games had an arms race for who could do shadows better, who could cram the highest polycounts, who could do fire better, who could do water better, particle effecfs, smoke, dynamic lighting, etc everyone was trying to make a name for themselves. Now that the industry has converged to fewer engines you make your game look better with 250gb install sizes.

  2. ​ @off6848  Doesn't matter what software you run on top, you're always bound to the operating system (capitalism). That's why communism always failed, you can try to manage your economy to go against capitalism but all you can do is bend the rules. But one day you will have to pay. You bend too far, it smacks you right in the face.
