  1. Because the movie was written for Maverick to steal a F-14 Tomcat - only Iran has them. Why would the US have a strike mission out of nowhere? Nuclear enrichment is basically the only situation serious enough to warrant military response. Why couldn't it be done by long range cruise missile and avoid risking pilots? Facility built into a mountain. So even though the geography was fudged to have snowy mountains near the coastline, the nameless country had to be Iran and the target a bunker that can't just be targeted by missile so that Maverick has to do it the old fashioned way. And nuclear proliferation is the only thing that brings military action to the table without trying diplomacy, sanctions, etc first.

  3. ​ @Tijuanabill  1. Contingency 2. Stealth is based on energy reducing based on the inverse square law of the distance. If you're close enough to a stealth aircraft it becomes visible on radar because there isn't enough distance for it to disperse.

  4. ​ @esshakkar1357  the F-117 was hit because it flew almost over a S-125 site that had not been seen in satellite pictures. It was sheer luck. They tried to lock on twice and failed. The SAM crews knew there were no Wild Weasel aircraft in the air and broke their own rules to attempt a third lock. Two missiles fired. One lost track.

  5. ​ @stevenwallace8569  the Iron Dome was ALWAYS a defense against cheap rockets. The impressive capabilities of the Iron Dome was that air defenses were meant to take out million dollar missiles but Israel was attacked with 500 dollar rockets so they mde the best possible system at a low cost per interception. I don't know why Iron Dome then became synonymous with a full blown IADS, Israel needs expensive interceptors like Arrow and David's Sling to stop bigger threats.
