@theheavyartillery545 And you do? Getting hit in the plate causes the transfer of momentum to take place over a longer period of time and disperses the energy over a greater area. Recoil does not kill the shooter because the mass disparity between weapon and projectile causes it to accelerate at a slower rate, thus increasing the time over which transfer of momentum occurs.

@vonvomit5666 You're going to have to explain that to me. So people who WANT to be in the military are crybabies, but the people who wanted to get liberal arts degrees or whatever and are forced to get conscripted are badasses?

@rautamiekka As long as the rating isn't a lie, it shouldn't be. Ratings include a limit for backface deformation. This is what causes the bruising when someone takes a shot in their armor. By limiting the deformation, the energy is spread over the entire torso. If the armor is just made to stop a round, but doesn't satisfy the ratings then it can kill a person by penetrative injury. There's a video on youtube of a subsonic 300 BLK round versus a IIIA vest. The round is stopped by the vest, but in slow motion it's clearly visible that the bullet pushed the vest several inches into the ballistics gel, so IIIA doesn't stop 300BLK even though the vest catches the round.

@vonvomit5666 So volunteers who signed up to be military are whiny crybabies, but people who never wanted to be military are better...?

@londonberry2180 And my point is, your argument for conscription still doesn't work. Civilians in the US shoot more than probably all armies combined. Want a populace with shooting experience? The military isn't where they get it.

Firing a 50 cal doesn't rupture your organs. Except maybe the eardrums if you forget ear pro? Always remember Newton's laws of motion. What you put in someone's chest downrange is going into your shoulder.

@taan1424 Nobody mentioned mounted machine guns, thanks for picking a case that isn't in any way related to the argument. During WWI there were no modern armor standards. If you make an armor plate that doesn't stop the concussion, it's not armor. It's an object you can scam people into thinking it's armor (such as AR500 plates without NIJ certification). If you do have armor, it stops the concussion. It's pretty simple.

@vonvomit5666 So you claim that conscription weeds out trash, now you say it doesn't?
4
@theheavyartillery545 Not with a hard plate. That's with soft vests.
2
@londonberry2180 That kind of debunks conscription, though. If the conscripts won't be doing the shooting jobs, conscription won't train them for those other jobs either.
2
@vonvomit5666 Lazy trash does not get weeded out.

@wristsosloppy528 territorial problems with Japan, a country that doesn't have conscription and sees the military negatively...

There was an actual war in Georgia in 2008.

@theheavyartillery545 Read my comment again and this time read with the intent to understand, rather than the intent to respond.

@theheavyartillery545 Yeah, use emojis and keep thinking that 50 cal bullets kill by whizzing past people.
1
@theheavyartillery545 I'm not shitting on anyone. It was claimed that the impact from 50 would kill people through the plate. This is the mythical BS people spout about 50. It's not magic. It doesn't have magical properties.

@PORRRIDGE_GUN No argument.

@Gurgleschlortz Here's a video of 7.62 NATO failing to knock over a person with one foot in the air: /watch?v=o5f1Fo4r4_I skip to 5:34. I mean this with no ill will - if you try to argue with me and then tell me something that's demonstrably false, I'm biting and not letting go. That guy took one to the plate. With one foot in the air. Barely flinched. You said it would knock a person off their feet. It's not true.

No individual service rifle is effective at crew served weapons range.
