@nathanwilliams3877 Battlefield trophies like that are technically prohibited. I don't think most people are cool with that. That wasn't a battlefield. It was their own citizens.

@powderedwater67 That's legislation by referendum. In the US I don't remember any referendum being done at a federal level. You vote on the representatives, and they vote on the laws. At the state level you see that through ballot initiatives.

At one point handguns were going to be banned in 1934. So they obviously dealt with the attempt to make shotguns and rifles into concealable guns by outlawing short barrel rifles and shotguns. The handguns ended up not getting banned but the workarounds were still banned. Now you can buy an AR or AK as a "pistol" instead of rifle (you can't cut down a rifle, you have to buy as a pistol) but it can't have a stock. However, the stabilizing brace is an attachment you can buy that's made to wrap around the arm and not supposed to be a stock. The ATF has gone back and forth on this, and essentially there's no wrong way to hold a pistol. If touching the brace with your shoulder made it illegal, then touching the back of an Uzi or MAC-10 on your shoulder would be illegal too. The sane solution would be to legalize short barrels but obviously that's not going to happen, so they want braces banned. I don't know if you've seen the "UK legal" handguns. It's just revolvers and semi-auto 22lrs, they have long barrels (or fake suppressors permanently attached) and a rod coming out the back so that it gives them the size of a rifle. It's obviously a handgun, but legally a rifle. Imagine if they tried to ban those because you can stick the rod into the sleeve of your shirt and hold them like a handgun. That's basically it.

@azurezerox8392 Exactly, and a gun being confiscated doesn't mean it was found in a crime scene. If they nab a guy with active warrants and find guns in the car, those go on the department social media posts too.

That's not how it works. There's such a thing as economies of scale. There's a guy who made a cheeseburger from scratch, it cost him a total of $1500.

Because he did have to borrow a cow to milk. Either way, if you want to make a weapon from scratch you have these issues. Forging? You'll need a custom kiln to bring the steel to proper temperatures, a pretty heavy forging machines, forging dies, etc. Machining everything from stock would be the cheapest way to do a one-off firearm, but it takes time to operate a manual machine that competently. A CNC cabinet with the right size could cost 15-20 thousand for a quality one, used.

Yes. It just can't be a NFA item. Make sure you check your local laws because some states require a permit or serial number even on homemade guns.

That would have been a good question in 1989 or something. Hell, if you asked me in 2012 I'd give you an answer about laws I'd find acceptable. The problem is that we have a situation where "you given an inch and they take a mile", or "you lend them a finger and they rip off the arm". There's several languages with similar expressions. Realistically, we are in the middle ground. But the anti-gun side wants even more. And in a few years they'll pretend there are no gun laws and ask for more, pretending we need a new middle ground. This is not sustainable.

Because they know they won't get punished by voting for gun laws. If they start losing elections and realize it's the gun issue that's costing them, they'll let go. But because Democrat gun owners keep voting for Democratic party politicians, they do the surprise pikachu face when they turn out to be anti-gun.

The brace is made from rubber and needs an "empty" void that touches the arm. That's why most have a "fork" that surrounds the forearm on two sides or have a "blade" that's thin enough to touch the side of the arm.

For 4 years the administration was mocked and insulted. I don't care about Trump, and I'm not pearl-clutching about people saying nasty things about him, but don't come here and pearl-clutch about the nasty things I say about people I don't like. Don't even try. A comedian can go on late night shows and claim Trump's mouth is Putin's c*ck-holster. I have the right to be an asshole for 4-8 years after that. Not sure how animal abuse is dealt with because every state has their own quirks on how they fail to uphold the law, but I'm pretty sure that DV misdemeanors are already an instant failure on the NICS check and during the Obama administration stalkers and people with restraining orders were added to the prohibited persons list.

It also allows anyone who has beef with you to call a red flag on you and take your guns away until you can prove to the court you're innocent.

@azurezerox8392 I'm sure there's no data because government is a mess. But on the internet I see gang members posting their shooters. Obvious P80s with aftermarket slides, drum mags, they like the transparent ETS mags or whatever. It's like jewelry to them. Call it weird, but instead of looking at social media pages where people post their 100th Mk18 Block II or Mk12 SPR build I look at guns the gangs and narcos post online.

Crime doesn't correlate to poverty, though. It looks like it, but that's because criminals tend to live in poorer areas.
