Steel is usually lacquer/poly coated so the friction shouldn't matter. However, steel case is often loaded cheap and it's a little less powerful than brass. When shooting in cold temps it's possible that the conditions caused the shooting to happen a little undergassed.

It's not a compromise. It's not a best of both worlds. It's a full rifle cartridge and it's a stout one. That's why the Sig ammo needs a steel base, a brass case head would rupture.

@PoorCoyotee How did I miss the point? The AR-15 is actually still a superior platform to the NGSW offerings, and you are wrong in calling it a compromise when it's a full rifle caliber.

@PoorCoyotee "How is not a compromise between the 5,56 and 7,62?" - Because it's more powerful than 7.62, look at videos of people firing the NGSW prototypes. The rifles kick like a mule. "every round is a compromise in some way" - Then why bring it up? When everything's a compromise, nothing is. Do you go around saying "that person has two eyes"? Most people have two eyes, it goes without saying.

@PoorCoyotee Because they reduced case weight... And yes, power is very relevant. If recoil is harsher than intermediate, it's no longer intermediate because it gives away the advantage of fast recovery. 7.62x63 is not suitable and requires a longer action/magazine.

Their munitions manufacturing plant in Ukraine was captured by separatists in 2014, so when they started a new one in 2016-2017 they didn't focus on 7.62x39 or commercial exports. I've seen a press release stating they will do exports of multiple calibers starting this year but it remains to be seen.
