@qouavang3646 political reasons? You better fucking explain that one. Increased hit probability, flatter trajectory and lighter weight are good enough reasons alone to make the change, but POLITICAL reasons?

@Iwillfigureoutanamelater yet there is a reason Russians picked it.

@556poor7 "The Israeli's are as good a friend the US could have." - didn't they steal uranium from the US and sell US missile technology to China?

@johndowe7003 okay but my reasoning was why Russians picked it for their military, and their military can get all the 5.45 ammo they want. It's the US customer that got shafted with the loss of 7n6

@raynman6466 "there's no replacement for displacement" - but 5.45 was designed to displace more tissue than 7.62

@spicecrop objectively lighter, objectively flatter trajectory, objectively lower recoil, less time to target, it actually causes more damage to tissue, cheaper cost per round, etc etc etc Clinton is literally worse at everything compared to Trump, so...

@davydovua "worse energy retention" - that's not exactly accurate. Although lighter, the 5.45 is a more aerodynamically efficient bullet while the 7.62x39 is a fat and stubby cartridge. Right now I can't find a chart comparing 5.45 and 7.62 directly but it's easy to see that after a while the gap is too narrow to justify the disadvantages. https://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/Ymi6Adh.png https://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2016/07/BIDjKyp.png

Earl Lee True that. Except that if the Soviets realized that 5.56 was better than 7.62x39, and then actual studies confirmed that their new caliber outperformed 5.45, you can't exactly call it a stupid decision.
