He had 10 years of experience studying genealogy, while detectives need to be proficient on several fields of study without ever having the time to master one. This wasn't a gut instinct. It was a gifted individual using his skills to draw the most likely candidates into a test pool so that law enforcement could work that angle.

@pepre7594 you don't have to be a well known person, you just have to be a person. Your identity can be used to make money before any foul play is found out. The people doing identity theft will then move on to a new identity.
