  1. The big difference is that the Afghan war was lost by the... Afghan government. The Soviet-aligned government lost control which sent Afghanistan into a civil war. A Ukrainian victory scenario means the Ukrainian state still exists, still functions, is still able to provide emergency services and establish rule of law, etc. which offer a smoother rebuilding.

  5. I assure you that if a significant force leaves Belarus, there will be a coup against Lukashenko while his army is out of the country. China backing Russia would tacitly support Taiwanese and Xinjiang independence. If the DPR and LPR can leave Ukraine, then certainly parts of China can leave too - right? They have to be careful. The government of Kazakhstan has said they don't recognize the republics, probably because of ethnic Russians living there.

  6. The CSTO seems uninterested in the war. Khazakstan won't even recognize the separatist republics. Areas under control can still be shelled until it becomes unfeasible to control. Tactical nukes are not "polite" nukes. The use of one means toothpaste that will not go back into the tube. Even the countries willing to deal with Russia will be forced to ostracize them.

  7.  @xxxchcxxx8905  The rest of the world would to come to terms with the fact that Russia has decided to become a rogue nation and can't be trusted with their arsenal of nukes. Obviously everyone would think about game theory and now it would be preferable to decapitate Russia first rather than let them recompose themselves and threaten others with nukes. Realistically, the rest of the world would be pressured to starve Russia out and hope they don't launch more nukes.
