  3.  @horsebee1  In Iraq the Republican Guard shot down several A-10s. So it was decided the A-10 would be used against Iraqi Army units because they had less equipment and training. Armor in aircraft is meant to delay the inevitable and allow pilots to limp back. In an age where missiles can cut aircraft in half, the fact that the two halves have armor plates around the vital components means nothing

  4. They have not been replaced... they're serving for longer than they should because the F-22 program was cancelled less than a third of the way in.
