Weapons exports are a very regulated market. Sellers do not want their technology to just be sent willy nilly across the world.

You can't breathe after tungsten carbide armor is hit or your vehicle is hit by a tungsten carbide penetrator either. The dust is a heavy metal and carcinogenic. Any modern sabot tank round or modern armor is bad for your health if you inhale the specks thrown into the air by the impact.

Abrams can run on diesel, and the "jet fuel" is JP-8 - a NATO standard fuel that is used in ground vehicles, heaters, generators, etc to simplify logistics. Instead of bringing diesel and aviation fuel, you bring JP-8. And feel it do anything that runs on it.

They were "only" 7 billion, and the equipment was downgraded versus the good stuff. Most of it was Blackhawks, Humvees and MRAPs. Just the basics, no high tech armor.

To get a decent radioactive dose, you'd have been killed several times over from heavy metal toxicity. DU is not any more dangerous than tungsten carbide. And all armies use tungsten carbide.

This is true. However, the sentiment expressed by Jake is correct. If you inhale enough DU to suffer radiation effects, you're already going to suffer heavy metal poisoning. So in the end DU armor is not any more dangerous than tungsten carbide armor, which is also poisonous and carcinogenic.

It's complicated. Mind that there's both hard-right and hard-left sympathies for Russia (who are pretty much 5th columnists). Many don't want Germany to be responsible for another world war. Others are completely pacified as a result of decades of WW2 war guilt and divestment from the military after 1991. If I'm not mistaken according to polls Germany ranks low on the percentage of people who say yes if asked if they'd fight for their country.

The Abrams was designed to defend Europe. The MBT-70 program was even supposed to replace the Leopard 1 in West German service. Zee Germans went with the Leopard 2 and the US kept revising the design until it became the M1.
