There's dirt poor countries that produce things which are always in demand. China and India making a fortune off the backs of Russians is only adding insult to injury. Two countries plundering Russia, and Putin is supposed to roll over like a dog.

They won't do it for free, they'll take a cut. Even assuming that those countries aren't caught and won't get sanctioned themselves, it would still limit the supply and create costly expenses.

Most of their trade partners are poorer nations. I like how "restructuring" an economy is just flipping a switch to you.

@ew6546 China is one country. India is one country. They're not the majority. The majority of Russian trade partners, aka not India and China, are less developed nations. I mean Brazil is pretty big but I'd hesitate to call it a major economic player.

@ew6546 Okay, then you just own up to the wrong terminology. You're not saying most countries, because there's like 160 of them not engaged in sanctions, you're saying most relevant trade partners. If you add them in, you don't get much. And by the way, how likely is that Brazil will switch tune if Bolsonaro loses to Lula?

@ew6546 I'm not manufacturing anything. Most of the world does not matter. Yes, there is a point in dealing with hypotheticals. You brag about Brazil, which is a country full of issues, and want to ignore how it may fall onto the grip of a left wing president simply because Bolsonaro should have more tact and know when to not put his foot in his mouth. His chances of reelection would be better if he didn't keep giving his opposition reasons to smear him.

1. Unofficial channels means that someone's taking a cut, and Russia isn't that someone. 2. Do you think they're in a position to get anything other than money? Trade works excellently with money. Especially if your economy is going down the drain. 3. Most of the pipelines lead West. The infrastructure to sell to China isn't there. 4. Do you know who buys more goods from China? It's not Russia. The EU and US are much bigger trade partners. China's strategic interest would be more to turn Russia into a vassal state since they can exploit them, but not use them as some kind of lifeline. If the EU shot itself on both legs, then surely Putin and Lavrov will come begging for even more sanctions.
