@KrysHome how is it an ignorant comment? If he had proven to be a smart investor and said that SC was a good investment, that would at least lend some credibility to his claims. But if he admittedly lost money in his investments, his praise of SC might actually mean SC will crash and burn as well.

@KrysHome this video is more than a month old, and somehow you've already been thumbs upped within 30 mins of your comment being posted. Hmmmm. Stop strawmanning. The OP himself shot himself in the foot by claiming he made bad investments. How is that being condescending? I mean, if anything the OP is being condescending by somehow linking his praise of SC to his past investments.

@Matthew Townley the community wasn't asked if they wanted to expand the scope of the game. First they were asked if the stretch goals should be continued to be offered. Roberts then said: "There has been some concern about “feature creep” with the additional stretch goals. You should all know that we carefully consider the goals we announce." "we don’t commit to adding features that would hold up the game’s ability to go “live” in a fully functional state. Also remember that this is not like a typical retail boxed product — there is no rule that all features and content have to come online at the same time!" Roberts promised that the stretch goals wouldn't expand the scope of the game and could be delivered after release so saying the community voted to expand the scope of the game is not accurate. The first poll also only had 21076 votes, which was 8% of the more than 250k backers. The second poll only had 34590 votes, which was 7% of the more than 470k backers.

So simply allow businesses to lie through their teeth and we won't feel bad. Nah.

@mactan_sc doesn't make a difference, people lost their money

"most decent well made games take 10 years Before they are ever even announced" - not true. "Honestly the only people complaining are those who have no idea how game dev works" - lol you people must be handed a guidebook on how to shill for this unfinished game, always claiming we don't understand game development. Well, do you?
1
"it was released because there are people already spending more than that" - and somehow it doesn't cross your mind that that's actually WORSE because it implies those motherfuckers think the content in their unfinished game is worth that much
1
@Jumptownwore the latter wing commanders did not make a profit due to Roberts going overbudget and he also had to be set aside from Freelancer due to his mismanagement.
1
That's not true. The community voted for STRETCH GOALS. Which Roberts promised wouldn't compromise the release date and that could be added after release. Also, it was only 8% of the community that voted. Around 21 thousand votes when the community was over 250 thousand backers.
1
But that's the problem. The gaming industry knows that to make more money you simply nickle and dime your customer rather than making good products. Look at gaming companies driving their franchises into the ground. Who cares if the game sucks and sells less if you can manipulate the consumer to pay more?
1
@-JustHuman- "88% in favor of growing the game" - but that's a lie. People voted for stretch goals. Stretch goals are cherries on top. Roberts himself said that the base game would be the priority, that the stretch goals wouldn't expand the scope of the game and that stretch goals could be completed after release. Again, stretch goals are cherries on top. Not the base game.
1
@-JustHuman- ""extra features and development milestones." That means the game will be bigger." - nope. Extra features are exactly that. Extra. "No I your misunderstanding that" - I didn't. Robert's own words "the more funds we can raise in the pre-launch phase, the more we can invest in additional content (more ships, characters etc.) and perhaps more importantly we can apply greater number of resources to the various tasks to ensure we deliver the full functionality sooner rather than later." "There has been some concern about “feature creep” with the additional stretch goals. You should all know that we carefully consider the goals we announce." "we don’t commit to adding features that would hold up the game’s ability to go “live” in a fully functional state. Also remember that this is not like a typical retail boxed product — there is no rule that all features and content have to come online at the same time" Roberts clearly said that there would be no feature creep. The money would be used for content and to make the game release sooner than faster. He also said that stretch goals would be added after release. This means the game's scope doesn't expand, the game is released anyway but the extra content from stretch goals would be released afterwards. "Do you have a link on that, because I haven't seen that anywhere ?, or are you just making it up" - https://robertsspaceindustries.com/comm-link/transmission/13284-Letter-From-The-Chairman-20-Million

@-JustHuman- "HOW would that ever be something they could make AFTER the game ?" - remember when Mass Effect Andromeda shipped with placeholder animations that were later replaced by patching? Either way the mocap is done in parallel. The developers working on the game are not the people shooting the scenes. You can film the mocap, develop the game, and you add the mocap to the game during development without needing delays. "no mention of stretch goals through" - read again. The more funds they raise, the sooner you get the game. "It's miles apart from what you said" - no, it isn't. "Also remember that this is not like a typical retail boxed product — there is no rule that all features and content have to come online at the same time" - features can be added after release "we don’t commit to adding features that would hold up the game’s ability to go “live” in a fully functional state." - stretch goals will not add delays "There has been some concern about “feature creep” with the additional stretch goals. You should all know that we carefully consider the goals we announce." - again, Roberts claims that there won't be scope creep. So when the community voted, they were ensured that their vote wouldn't lead to delays, no scope creep and that the priority was releasing the game first. The claim that the community voted to expand the scope of the game holds no water because that's not what they were told.

@Dumb-Comment depends on what you consider a scam. Do I think Chris Roberts genuinely wants to make the game but simply can't manage a project? Yes. So I can't call it a scam as in a scheme to steal money. Do I think it made Chris Roberts a lot of money from gamers' hopes and they'll probably be disappointed? Yeah, I would consider that a "scam" in the colloquial sense.

@KrysHome so because I pointed out some guy is straight up forgiving businesses for taking his money and lying I've been abused... Thanks Dr. Phil. Also, stop upvoting yourself.
1
@KrysHome nice Ad Hominem. It's an admission that you have no counterargument. Thanks for attributing me the win.
1
@KrysHome how am I delusional? All you have are Ad Hominem attacks and self-upvoting.
1
@KrysHome this is a 3 week old thread, either the OP is popping in to check on the conversation or you've been upvoting yourself. How fucking SAD do you have to be?
1
@dominicgunderson Because it's fucking appalling that a company would think their unreleased game has content worth 27k. Of course that people lost their shit, because until the bundle nobody stopped to think about how much crack Roberts must have smoked before setting the prices of spaceships.
1
@LordTiberius52 you're completely lying about the vote. The community voted for stretch goals, which Robert promised wouldn't affect the scope of the game and could be added after release.
1
"Yes, the game isnt "released" yet, you know why? Because it's an MMO. " - SQ42 is not an MMO. "people now PRAISE Hello Games for continuing to work and improve upon No Mans Sky" - because Hello Games could have simply closed down and flee from the damage they caused. They continued to work without asking for thousands of dollars in ships. Hello Games was praised for owning up to their mistake and FIXING the game. That deserves praise in a world where being dishonest and hide from the consequences would simply be easier. "They had the decency to admit it wasnt ready, which Hello Games did NOT have." - if they had any decency they'd have focused on finishing the game rather than selling ships. "FULLY ACKNOWLEDGES the customer that its an ALPHA GAME" - under the promise of a finished game. I'm sorry, but you can't get away with selling shitty unfinished games by simply saying it's alpha. You could make money simply making alphas for games that will never be released with the disclaimer that's in alpha.
1
Everyone has a lot to lose because if Star Citizen fails it can kill the crowdfunding of future games. If it succeeds, it proves that the model of outrageous macrotransactions and perpetual early access works.
1
Everyone who disagrees with you is a kid. You sure are mature to have such high esteem of your own opinions.
1
"the $27000 package is only accessible if you have pledge over $1000" - that doesn't matter, it makes it even worse in fact because that's 28k down the drain. "it was backers that asked CIG to create that game package" - maybe backers should have asked for a finished game "which is still cheaper than buying all the ships individually" - but that's the problem, Roberts thinking his unfinished game is worth more than 27k of content. That's the psychological manipulation of sales, you think you're saving money by spending money on things you don't need.
1
bULLSHIT. Robert's own words: "There has been some concern about “feature creep” with the additional stretch goals. The over 80 percent of people who voted Yes voted to CONTINUE TO OFFER STRETCH GOALS. Stretch goals are bonuses. You can't claim that the core gameplay is too hard to develop when people voted for polish. How is it people's fault that Roberts is a liar?

Not even Shigeru Miyamoto would defend this mess.
1
@UltraSuperDuperFreak "so if you paid attention to infomation giving to you" - like the promised 2014 release? Or the promised 2015 release? Or the promised 2016 release? The information keeps changing. You're telling us to pay attention, I tell you to pay attention to the fact you have been consistently lied to and you're defending it.
1
@VictorECaplon "Until 2015, they did not have the team to develop the tech required for this game" - why was that not disclosed in 2012?
1
If you want to watch that movie, there's Sunk Cost Galaxy here on youtube. It's on 7 parts now and the last one is an hour long.
1
"The devs would have NO BENEFIT from "intentionally only developing just enough to sell ships, avoid releasing the game"" - but they do. Once the game releases, sales will diminish. "Because you probably arent familiar with MMO's. The BIGGEST income boom they COULD attain, is if they DID in fact finish the game ASAP, because then they will get MORE income than they EVER Have so far" - not really. Once the game is finished, everyone who was interested in the game already bought it. "It's in their BEST FINANCIAL PROFIT interest, to make the game as complete and finished as they possibly can, as fast as possible" - again, no. They made millions of the sunk cost fallacy. People fearing the money running out before release allowed people to rationalize their spending. After release, people already have the product and are burned out from spending so there's no incentive. "The biggest surges in their income always comes right after they announce and demonstrate new features in the game" - because it keeps the dream alive.

@RobinHartJones An Aston Martin is an Aston Martin. You're stupidly paying for something, but it's an Aston Martin. You're a big shot, go ham. If you do the same thing with a videogame... That's actually sad.
