@charlytaylor1748 "ask some of the guys who sit back and watch their investment stocks rise in value" - apart from insider trading, they could have easily lost it all in those gambles

@ThreeDaysOfDan yeah of course it isn't gambling by the legal definition, but "gamble" is anything you take a risk on. Like for example: "Crossing the street here? With the poor visibility it's a gamble."

To take money out of circulation. According to modern monetary theory the state won't use taxes to finance its programs, it will simply pay it with debt, and taxes are the means to scale back inflation. I don't agree with it, but that's how it was explained to me.
