@sugarnads "its basically inarguable it was influenced by the stg42/43/44, detachable magazine fed, intermediate cartridge, etcetcetc." - Considering how the drive to have an assault rifle project had heavy influence from the Soviet experience in using submachine guns in urban combat, it would be a given that the weapon would have a detachable magazine. That's essentially undeniable, the StG wasn't the first weapon issued in the battlefield to have detachable magazines. Also, the Soviets designed the 7.62x39mm M43 cartridge before they even had a weapon to fire it. So while the cartridge was definitely influenced by 7.92 Kurz, you can't say the AK derived it from the StG. The rifle was designed around the caliber rather than being designed to mimic the StG.
