@user-vs6oe8fl3m did you just fucking say Stalinism is democratic?

@K yeah, and have you noticed how policemen have become armed thugs who kill at a drop of a hat with near impunity?

The whole point is that nobody controls anything. Hey, in a controlled economy those with the hands on the controls are friends with the billionaires. So we're living in the dystopia you people think the free market is.

@etiennesauve3386 "We could say the same thing about state owned companies. " - Not really. State-owned companies do not need to turn a profit because their existence can be financed as long as there's taxpayers. A cooperative needs to turn a profit or else it runs out of funds and collapses. Also, many state-owned companies benefit from the fact that the state can use the power of law to drive competition away. "I brought up the cooperative mode to show that socialism is not just "stealing" from the the poor capitalist" - by definition that's kind of what socialism is...

"there even are socialists who are okay with the right to own property" - then they're not socialists and should seek a different ideology "by mixing all the socialists together under the evil imagery" - it's only fair, considering how all the socialists who seized control put murderers in power for some reason

"The cooperative business model is an exemple of socialism that works" - but it doesn't. The cooperative business model is simply a different way to handle the internal management of a company. They exist under capitalist systems and play by capitalism's rules. Using a cooperative model is voluntary from the part of the owners and the workers voluntarily enter contracts with such companies. And the most successful cooperatives are known for bending the rules on worker ownership. Mondragon for example purchased a retailer chain and "inherited" the workers but did not give them partial ownership even though the company is under a cooperative. "Also, the stockmarket is full of socialist, they buy stocks to be part of this group called shareholders." - it's publicly traded but privately owned. "That is group ownership of the means of productions" - but they don't actually own the means of production. Are you just playing dumb for comedic purposes or is that an actual defense of socialism?

@etiennesauve3386 I don't see how that affects the discussion one way or the other. Cooperatives are still not an example of socialism, and the US isn't the freest market economy. None of those statements should be controversial.

@KarlEriksenopinion "By "restraining" I think you mean "regulating in the public interest", which is the only kind of capitalism that has ever worked well." - and yet countries with more economic freedom are in general better off than countries with economic restrictions
1
@KarlEriksenopinion "All the nonsense about "unregulated" free markets are simply appeals to allow market regulations to be designed, implemented, and controlled by those who already have wealth" - bullshit. Deregulation of markets prevent those who have wealth from gaming the system by simply eliminating the competition.

@KarlEriksenopinion and yet the most developed countries typically rank at the top in economic freedom... Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
