@uoislame That's the thing, you're not supposed to be "free". Yes, innocent until proven guilty, but to prove someone guilty they have to show up to court. On minor crimes you're simply summoned to court and they trust you'll show up, on more serious offenses you're remanded. And you don't "pay" to be released on bail, you essentially leave a deposit. You are returned the bail money, I watched the Kyle acquittal live and the judge mentioned that the bail would be returned. That's how bail bonds work, if you don't have the money for the full amount of the bail you can pay 10-15% of the amount and the bail bondsman pays the rest. When your trial is done then the bail bondman collects his money back and keeps the whole thing as a fee.
The states which have abolished cash bail essentially use a points scoring system to decide if you are released, if you're placed under house arrest or just remanded. It's essentially only about inequality, because you don't get "freedom" with the abolishment of cash bail. They simply throw you in jail until the trial. Or they release people who shouldn't be released, like this guy.
