You don't know why the SAS boarded that ship or why you shot sailors during their sleep (until you find a shipping manifest that contextualizes the mission). You don't know anything about Al-Assad or the people he executed in the introduction of the game. You're just playing as extraordinary people who are used as chess pieces and have no moral agency but will sacrifice themselves to save the world and nobody will even know about it (the events are covered up). Then when MW became personal and Price had monologues that made him sound like he thought of himself as divine justice incarnate the story went off the rails.
