  1.  @soundwavesuperior6761  What a load of rubbish. Plenty of people with highschool diplomas but a technical mind have jailbroken phones and games consoles. Even John Deere tractors have been hacked.

  2.  @soundwavesuperior6761  No point in trying to move goalposts. Car mechanics nowadays are specialized due to the complexity of modern cars. Regarding hacking, you only need one guy or a team of guys to hack. After the hack, everyone can do it. Yeah, it takes the 0.1% to do great things. But then it becomes widely available. Are you in the 0.1% capable to designing jet engines? No. But they've been designed already, and now you can just buy an airline ticket. Can you design a CPU? No. But you have them in your computer or cellphone. After something is done, it can be replicated by others.

I feel like a second class citizen for having to take three different transports to get to places with no direct A to B route. I feel like a second class citizen for having to deal with inconsistent schedules and arriving at work late.

  6.  @FNLNFNLN  I live in a highly urbanized area - public transportation has been nothing but stress my whole work life. Getting my driver's license was one of the best things I've done and I regret failing the exam the first time I attempted at around 19 years old.

  11. To be fair, the issue with fertilizer is real. The problem is that the governments like in the Netherlands delayed their response and now put all the burden on farmers. The updates in farming methods to become less intensive needed to be gradual.

  12. It's not money and profit. Engines run at below max efficiency to minimize emissions. That was the reason for the Volkswagen scandal, to test emissions the engine runs below efficiency, but in road driving it starts to run leaner to save fuel at the cost of more NOx.

He's trying to claim that even if the repairs are figured out in a right to repair world, only the few will be able to do it. Not true. Once someone figures it out and publishes the results, it becomes replicable everywhere. No, it doesn't harm my point. It proves that technically skilled people exist and they are trained for it. Not a problem. Yes, hacking or jailbreaking is specialized knowledge. And after a person or group does it, it becomes commonplace. It's not irrelevant. In a right to repair world, there would be no legal hassle. I mentioned hacking or jailbreaking, which is done in a world without right to repair. I have not ceded anything. Jet engines are an analogy. Do you know what an analogy is? Do you? Please do not try to play coy. Grow up. Yes, not everyone can debug a car to clear the errors. That's why car mechanics exist. Your argument is already countered by the reality we live in. Mechanics existed in the 1950s, they existed in the 2000s and they will continue to exist for as long car continue to be a thing.

  15.  @JamesBiggar  I can't build my own where I live. In theory I could, but I need the DMV engineer to sign off on it. They never do. Anyone who builds a kit car or recovers an antique chassis registers them in a country where laws are lax and then pays the HEAVY import fee to inherit the foreign VIN. Same as fighter jets in civilian hands being registered as experimentals in the USA because the FAA is more lenient than most countries. If I were wealthy I'd build my car. I am not, so I am limited to the market.
