  1. Not how it works. A RWR will display the emitting radar in a threat ring and pilots know of enemy SAM timelines so that they can go defensive despite lack of launch warning. True active SAMs are pretty much non-existent, all radar SAMs are either semi-active until impact, semi-active and switch to active for the final terminal maneuvering, or command guided by the launcher. What happened here is that while the US has gathered emissions from Soviet/Russian SAMs, the Russians had never gathered emissions from modern Patriots so their RWR systems cannot assign a threat estimate.
