They just want to score convictions and keep their numbers up. They bypass the mandatory minimums with that. If you're guilty, you take the plea deal and get out in 3 years. If you're innocent and want to fight, you're gambling 16 years in the slammer.

  23.  @elfpimp1  we're too hung up on the Liberator. Many designs have surpassed it's abilities, easier to load and repeating rather than single-shot. But even then, legally speaking the gun is the frame. The current version of the 3D printed Glock frame is very high quality and all the other parts can be purchased over the counter without regulation. You can basically have a full working gun because all the parts that make a gun work well don't actually count as guns. Obviously this is different in Europe because our serialized parts are the slide/bolt and barrel. But still, 3D printing has actually helped on that end too. A 3D printed mandrel, salt water and some copper wire can rifle and chamber drawn-over-mandrel tubing so that you can make barrels without a lathe.

  25.  @bdchatfi  Just a small addition here, but the bailout money needs to stay in the financial sector. The overinflation is mostly contained to the stock market. If you printed all that money on people who are going to spend the money on real resources you'd collapse everyone's purchasing power. If the government is causing inflation by printing money out of control, I'd rather it affect some fictional items on a ledger than immediately hike the prices on the supermarket. The first is just a continuation of bad policy and continue the over-evaluation of stocks, the second is Venezuela-tier economics.

Food prices increased due to the Nazi agricultural policy. The unemployment figures were completely fudged by ignoring how many women stayed home due to the financial incentives, the number of refugees who fled Germany and the unemployed who were absorbed into the armed forces and work camps. Their economic policy was so terrible that they had to sacrifice rearmament to prevent the demoralizing food rationing which in the end made Germany rely heavily on horses for logistics, despite the popular conception that the Germans were highly advanced and mechanized.

  50. The problem is that money rarely changes and if you try to change the picture you're trying to print then you'll make a note that will look funny to people. If you try to make a 3d printer refuse to print a gun not only will you need to always keep feeding it the new models of guns people are designing for 3D printers, but you will also have to deal with people changing the models slightly so that they're no longer the same as the prohibited design. Finally, the software on the printer can be easily hacked and people actually make their own 3d printers by buying the motors and hooking them up to microcontrollers running open-source software. The government and manufacturers can't do anything about people buying the components for 3d printers and running their own custom software.
