  1. It is a big deal. If I tell people one can make a gun after a trip to the hardware store nobody believes me because people are so detached from basic metalworking and practical craft skills. But tell them 3D printers can make guns and suddenly they realize the genie is out of the bottle.

There's thousands of criminal uses of illegal machine guns, meanwhile there's only a couple uses of legal machine guns for homicides since 1934 (one of them a cop assassinating an informant). M134s are less common than Uzis, and also very costly to reproduce in a home shop. They're almost entirely milled guns, possibly from forgings. Meanwhile the Irish loyalists fought the IRA with Uzis they manufactured in a home shop. The law against machine guns does not work because there's plenty of them, unregistered. How did you miss it?" - lmao but you can't put his leaks back in the bottle. That's why you can't ban information. Once it's freely available it will be spread. The blueprints for a gun? Not a crime. Otherwise any engineer with spare time could commit a crime, I know I sure as fuck have a shit ton of gun designs doodled on my notebooks from my college days. "How about the live feeds from your phones and PCs?" - it's still a crime. Gun blueprints aren't crime. "considering 90% of Republicans favor stricter gun laws?" - bullshit. How about you actually look at the survey and read the questions asked?

  4. What do you mean by "use it immediately"? Because the 3D printing gun community is pretty big and there's lots of ingenuous ideas, many I would call as immediate as it gets.

  6.  @elfpimp1  we're too hung up on the Liberator. Many designs have surpassed it's abilities, easier to load and repeating rather than single-shot. But even then, legally speaking the gun is the frame. The current version of the 3D printed Glock frame is very high quality and all the other parts can be purchased over the counter without regulation. You can basically have a full working gun because all the parts that make a gun work well don't actually count as guns. Obviously this is different in Europe because our serialized parts are the slide/bolt and barrel. But still, 3D printing has actually helped on that end too. A 3D printed mandrel, salt water and some copper wire can rifle and chamber drawn-over-mandrel tubing so that you can make barrels without a lathe.

  8. The problem is that money rarely changes and if you try to change the picture you're trying to print then you'll make a note that will look funny to people. If you try to make a 3d printer refuse to print a gun not only will you need to always keep feeding it the new models of guns people are designing for 3D printers, but you will also have to deal with people changing the models slightly so that they're no longer the same as the prohibited design. Finally, the software on the printer can be easily hacked and people actually make their own 3d printers by buying the motors and hooking them up to microcontrollers running open-source software. The government and manufacturers can't do anything about people buying the components for 3d printers and running their own custom software.

Your reply to me: "Anyone can bend a long enough piece of metal at home." - that means you agree with me so I fail to understand why you would need to reply. "But how about long term? I seriously doubt it'll perform reliably for any length of time." - why does it need to be long-term? It only needs to work once to prove a point. 50 people died in New Zealand and each magazine only needed to be used ONCE to cause all that mayhem. Gun control is sold to us as a way of preventing these events where each weapon and magazine are only used for a few minutes and the damage is done. They can't be prevented now. So it doesn't matter you can't use them long term. Make extras, replace as they fail. Ordinary springs do not last forever either. Weapons have scheduled maintenance cycles and parts should be replaced before breakage/failure and this means springs and other wear items like gas rings or extractors.

  14. I did a college project on the 1911 blueprints by converting them to 3D CAD blueprints, replicating all the individual cuts. It's an absolute goddamn bitch to machine. It speaks volumes about JMB's genius, to be honest.

Mechanisms can be just purchased off the shelf, but even then they're sheet metal and springs. You don't use the printer for those. Sure, if we are counting the time to acquire a printer and learn how to set it up it's gonna take longer. But a fully functional Glock is so much better.
