  1. But the people defending the mandatory minimums want plea deals. They effectively act as those judges that reduce sentences in your example. They just want to score convictions and keep their numbers up. They bypass the mandatory minimums with that. If you're guilty, you take the plea deal and get out in 3 years. If you're innocent and want to fight, you're gambling 16 years in the slammer.

  3. But with plea deals they do lenient sentences. Take note: the people you are defending only want to convict to keep their numbers up. They don't care if they're out un 2-3 years. In fact, they benefit from repeat offenders.
