Mind that the "laughing locals" had already at least two helicopter crashes that we know of because they were filmed. Everyone likes MacGyver repairs, until they're being done on your flight, your water supply, your MRIs, etc.

That's extremely wrong, considering that a hundred early F-35s were upgraded to a newer Block variant. Decades ago, those hundreds of planes would be sent to the boneyard with just a few years of service.
1
It was written by an insane man who blamed everyone else for his problems.
1
The Gripen requires components from a dozen different countries anyway so you'd be just as hosed.

@mbogucki1 Okay. You can build an aircraft nose to tail, it's composite and steel/titanium/aluminum. But you still have to buy a lot of equipment. Comms are British/German/American. The controls, landing gear and refueling probe are British. The gun is German. The APU is French/American. If you pay Saab to license build the aircraft, you can build an empty shell. Plus the stuff Sweden makes alone like the radar, flight computer and EW. You don't build the Mauser BK-27 cannon. Mauser sells it to you. You don't build the valves and fuel nozzles. America sells those to you.
1
That's a lie.

The Taliban also crashed the Blackhawks left there. Darwin awards for everyone.

The attempts to replicate the stealth coating issue showed that it pretty much doesn't happen. They just put a restriction on supersonic flight during peacetime. Also, it doesn't affect the A variant which would be the one that would spend more time in supersonic anyway.
1
@lyin4rmu Yeah. HIMARS had a 70km range on paper, Ukrainians used it to hit targets 85km behind the frontline. Read between the lines. American equipment is always downrated on paper. Only when an actual war starts does the actual performance reveal itself. That's reading between the lines. You should have learned by now. Decades of betting against American equipment. And it just performs.

Eurofighters are a clusterfuck and Viggensvare outdated.

@Mallchad It's not "shady", they were aware that the linux boot was the gate to piracy. When the sales stopped, people started looking for pre-patch PS3s so they could pirate gsmes.
1
@Mallchad You can do what you like, including not getting the update. Or you could try to crack the new updated PS3s security.
1
You can just drop a bomb with the F-35 instead of having to dive into target and give your life for the Emperor.

Insert "never learn Mandarin" 4chan copypasta. I actually suggest you look it up and read it.
1
@Dac_DT_MKD The problem is that they break down so often, Russia had dozens sitting in repair sites waiting for parts when Ukraine retook Kharkiv.
1
@Dac_DT_MKD Most of them don't work. Out of thousands in storage, only a few hundred will be refurbished. Most don't work.
1
But now figure in the opportunity costs involved. Engineers and scientists devoted to keeping old aircraft in the air could be actually helping the economy of Iran. Instead they're stuck on vanity projects.
1
@piotrd.4850 the Ukrainian air defense is not manned by conscripts but by people with technical backgrounds (such as engineering degrees). Ukraine also has a domestic arms capability and can refurbish missiles. This means that a lot of the Soviet baggage was discarded.
1
Looking at the big picture? Purchasing power parity puts Russia at 220 billion USD in defense spending. A third of the US. Nota tenth.
1
Cringe Quora commentators shat on it like they were paid to. I remember Pavel's rants.
1
Pretty much any aircraft contract includes engine spares in the delivery.
1
Their tanks are still blowing up, and Western tech seems to be kicking ass.
1
They'll be towed into Poland my dude.
1
They were never 1:1. If I remember right the F-14 was almost 40 hours of maintenance for every hour of flight.
1
The main reason you can't use diesel in a jet engine is that when you climb the low temperature will cause the fluid to thicken. Jet fuel has agents mixed in that allow it to work in most conditions. The Su-25 is an attacker aircraft usually flown at low altitude so he got away with it.

Russia is losing to Ukrainians and our surplus. Cope and seethe, pidor.
1
That's not true at all. First and foremost the F-35 started as a Harrier replacement which is a critical need for the USMC and partner nations. Second the USAF does need a replacement for ageing F-16s. The A-10 is an aircraft that's 30 years past retirement kept of life support due to Arizona lawmakers.
1
Not true.
1
@gettogo0159 They're not cheap and there's not a lot of fly-worthy ones. The F-35 is produced at a rate of almost 150 per year.
1
@gettogo0159 There's no cheaper aircraft, really. All of the modern 4th gen are over 100 million per aircraft. Boeing is only manufacturing Super Hornets and their fighter plant in St. Louis was having troubles until the USAF put in orders for the 15EX. And the EX is actually more expensive than the 35.
1
Eisenhower made his speech when defense spending was 10-15 percent of the GDP. It is now 4-5 percent. Eisenhower would be quite happy.
1
Russia is failing in foreign sales because they need it domestically. South Korea is the big seller right now.
1
@Demopans5990 and they got killed when it cashed.
