I can see how some coffee shops and restaurants make money from people that pass by them while commuting or work in the office across the street and eat lunch there regularly. I'm sure they're not the people she was thinking of when she said that, but still...

@morganhazel2373 Without landlords, the only housing available for many people would be essentially dormitories and long term stay motels. Great, you technically got rid of landlords but you didn't actually address your grievances regarding renting and real estate.

@morganhazel2373 They're built. Okay. Are you going to buy them? You're saying you're getting rid of the middleman. Sure. Get people together and you get a collective loan to build the apartment building. Aside from your local government maybe having some insane rule against that, why aren't people doing that? I can think of many reasons. It's a long term commitment with a ton of downsides. In fact it's pretty tragic how some real estate companies are outright scamming people in Russia with these collective contracts. Saving poor people a lot of money. Okay. If they have this money, then shouldn't they be purchasing instead of renting instead? If people get out of the renting market, landlords will have vacant houses and in need of tenants. This means some will be willing to sell to prevent losing money by lowering rent, putting more houses to the market. Obviously not applicable when the fucky regulations promote keeping property vacant like Louis has proven. Useful areas of the economy. Is housing not useful? I love how you're trying to make this personal as a cheap gotcha, but being mad at me isn't going to solve the issue.
