@rileybergin4857 A relative comparison is useless. In absolute terms, freedoms were removed.

@pinkbunnytail Now imagine that for whatever reason Western countries became Islamic for two years, and you're told you can't complain about it. The Western concept of freedoms doesn't work like that. It's the state that needs to prove guilt, not us who need to prove innocence. We don't need to prove why we need rights, it's the state that needs to justify taking them away. What do you define as unnecessary? Going to the beach will not cause a public health concern. People went outside and gathered in public spaces - just the approved ones. It's not a private business. These were orders by the STATE. The private business owners were threatened with fines if they didn't enforce the rules. By your "private business" argument the state would have ZERO POWER to enforce public health measures as business owners would be able to rule over their property as they saw fit. Be consistent. Your freedom to disagree with the fact that our freedoms were removed is exactly why we'll end up like China.

@pinkbunnytail But it was. The supposedly "free" West copied China's tactics to a tee. You're just saying the West can't complain until they become China, and by then we won't be able to. Thanks...? I'm not sure the health crisis and the beach are related. I'm fairly certain you're more likely to get health problems at the grocery store than the beach, if we exclude drowning and skin cancer. But the grocery store was open. Hell, liquor stores were open. Isn't alcoholism a health crisis? But I digress. People who lost their jobs were not subject to starvation? How do you buy food when broke? Physically forced tests? Sure, I was psychologically forced to. If I wanted to remain employed, and thus not starve, I had to submit to testing. It's mind-blowingly "appropriate" to demand things with a smile and threaten people with serious consequences (like homelessness or starvation)?
