With 400 million firearms in circulation and the number increasing every month, guns will be available for hundreds of years. "You're shooting down this potentially beneficial solution" - How is it potentially beneficial? You're assuming the conclusion with no premises.

@perperperpen Not only are there over 400 million guns in circulation, most of them unaccounted for, it's also becoming incredibly easy to make them at home. It's been done many times? Not in the US. Not with so many guns. Not in the 2020s, when 3d printers exist. You have a perfect storm of conditions that make it unfeasible. Assault rifles have already been banned in 1986. No, it's not easy to see how it is beneficial. The premise isn't even simple, but even giving you the benefit of the doubt, the premise and the actual action are two different things. Conditions outside the US are not the same. Many countries ranking above the US in gun crime have stricter gun laws. Gun crime doesn't care about laws, because by definition it is crime and therefore the gun laws are ignored. Mass killings happened in Europe, remember the ISIS attacks in the 2010s?

The UK looked into psych evals and determined they're useless. Unless a person has a pattern of behavior (that would exclude them from obtaining a gun in the first place) the person doing the psych eval has to depend on the interviewee being honest. People would pass their psych evals and tell others how to be prepared to pass them. A psych eval is simply a hurdle that discourages those who know they'd have trouble passing, it's not an actual active measure.

@perperperpen But that's not even an argument. We're not debating the reasons for crime, because guns aren't a reason to commit crime. Whatever the reason, criminals will obtain guns, and use them in violent countries. When gangs and criminal syndicates are caught in Europe, you often see tables with guns lined up and the criminals allowed themselves to be arrested without firing a shot. Meanwhile in the US, a criminal will shoot a cop who pulled him over just to tell him his tail light is out. Both types of criminals have access to guns, but very different levels of willingness to kill. The nation may be developed as a whole, but you go to some cities and it's honestly very similar to Brazil or Mexico. Did you see Seth Rogen's tweet to Casey Neistat about how his car has been broken into 15 times in LA? Is that acceptable for a developed nation? The 2010s happened just two years ago. We've spent most of 2020 and 2021 in and out of lockdowns. Not a lot of opportunities for mass killings. You can't lower the number, only prevent it from increasing.

There's no condemnation here. The original post has no malicious implications. Your argument was extremely weak and like I said, a purposeful misinterpretation. Yes, analogies fail when you go deeper than they were meant to be used. Thanks for not addressing what the analogy was meant to represent. Yeah, you're tired of people correcting your bad faith interpretation and shoddy arguments that only serve for you to get a kick out of insulting people and being a general nuisance online. @CreativeeLifestyle Okay, notice how you've shifted from "doesn't happen" to "okay it happens but it's less often"? Just be honest from the start. No, you can find the list by adding "mother jones" to the search because despite being a more left-leaning outlet they did not debase themselves by twisting definitions. They track mass shootings according to the correct definition of mass shooting, and there haven't been 100 school shootings in 20 years. There have been twelve. The US population is around 3.8 times the size of Germany, so a rough calculation is that if the US was the size of Germany, they'd have had 3.15 or roughly =~3 mass shootings at schools in the last twenty years.

Mental evaluations don't work. Even the UK looked into it and their parliamentary office of science and technology essentially concluded that there would be no benefits and they wouldn't be able to afford it. It is controversial because places like the USSR diagnosed their political enemies and mentally ill. Just diagnose everyone as mentally ill and you banned guns without passing a gun ban.
