  1. +James Jones well a turbo does convert energy into mechanical work that would otherwise be wasted, that's efficiency right there. Higher intake pressures mean better atomization of the fuel particles and improves the burn characteristics of the fuel/air mixture, which means less unburnt fuel, thus a leaner mix can be used to extract the same power. That equals gas savings. This is all theoretical knowledge I got in college (mechanical engineering), but I'm scratching my head and all the engines best known for their gas mileage in the city are turbocharged diesels.
