  1.  @WinterCharmVT  getting stuff recoated is a gamble if that coating isn't ubiquitous. Try to get a "special sauce" coating redone 10 years after being used once and discontinued and no small shop does it because they don't want to deal with the environmental regulations associated with the chemicals used. It's happening to chrome right now. Even in firearms more and more manufacturers are opting for nitrided barrels because chroming is more regulated then it used to be.
