  4. If you do pyrolysis you can actually recover wood gas along with the charcoal. That means you can lock in carbon in the charcoal but still have (CO2 releasing) "biofuel". That way you can actually power something instead of just dumping CO2. The problem is how you're going to have to manage this to not deplete the soils.
