@craigkingdon4424 really? Giving up one of the cleanest and safest energies is good? Germany is back to digging for coal. Coal kills more people than nuclear, but hey you say it's a good thing.

@Fung15 material irradiated does not become radioactive itself unless neutron bombardment turns the atoms into unstable isotopes. Food taken to space is irradiated to sterelize it, it does not become radioactive. I am sure the clothes are still radioactive not due to irradiation but dust and particles clinging to them.

@brendankevinsmith none of the links you posted mentioned dumping the coolant. The coolant was not messed with. The positive void coefficient made the reaction accelarate with boiling water and the insertion of the control rods forced the graphite to displace water which increased reactivity beyond proper parameters. No coolant was "dumped".

Most of the people close to a nuke detonation are killed by pressure wave, debris or the fires. Yeah, the irradiation would be fatal to most of the people near the explosion... But a big percentage of them gets killed instantly by other means. It's like when the media reported that Fallujah has more birth defects than Hiroshima due to the white phosphorus/DU munitions that were deployed in the war. I mean I'm glad they're reporting on it but to me that comparison is useless. Most of the people who would carry birth defects to their offspring in Hiroshima got killed instantly, while people living in aerosolized hazardous materials lived to have kids.
