Which is why Gepards and even heavy machine guns with spotlights are used.

@92HazelMocha They're not autonomous, at least the ones used in Ukraine. They're blind and fly towards GPS coordinates.

This video showed police bringing one down with AK fire lol

Ukraine doesn't claim to have built everything.

@ВячеславСкопюк Pretty sure they did.

@LOL-zu1zr What snipers? It was a bunch of people shooting in the general direction of an unmanned aircraft. You do realize that volley fire was used by ground troops with bolt action rifles to damage fighter aircraft trying to strafe, right?

@BlackElf94 No. Forget about manufacturing costs. The PARTS alone are more expensive than 20k. You can't use any 35hp motor. The Shahed uses a 9.000 dollar aviation grade motor.

@BlackElf94 The fact that it is expendable doesn't forgo the fact that it's still a military object. It needs to work when asked to even if it's been parked for months, even if it's in the desert. Nevertheless, many of the components are still aviation grade and unlike an engine can't be manufactured in Iran. Ukraine has analyzed probably hundreds of wreckage sites, they have made very detailed reports on the technology inside them.

@Tanks-In-Space But they claim to have built the Geran. Which is a Shahed.

@wallingnaga6563 Pretty sure it fell in the middle of the road. Was Russia targeting the road?

@ВячеславСкопюк So if it wasn't targeting the road and it fell on the road, how wasn't it shot down?

The real cost is much higher, the engine alone was sold online for 9k.

@BlackElf94 "possibly with 100-200hp car engines" - conversion of automotive engines into aviation engines is a very costly endeavor. There were several startups in the aviation space which tried to get cheap automotive motors to use as base for aviation engines, and ended up almost as expensive as just buying Lycoming engines.

@Tanks-In-Space If the Soviet Union was winning why did it need Lend Lease?
1
@jamesrowlands8971 What does that even mean? Copying concepts is not the issue. Copying entire systems is a greater indicator of technological gap (the first IR missile in the Soviet Union had parts compatible with the Sidewinder because it was a complete clone). Russia however is now slapping their names on things built by others.

@realpolitik01 And the Kremlin got droned lol what S-400 doing?
