North Vietnam did negotiate an end to the war. The fall of Saigon happened after a peace treaty, NV had tapped out. It just so happened that the war was upopular enough for the US to ignore their comittment to South Vietnam.

@abrahamdozer6273 The Tet Offensive broke the NV, the VC were nearly wiped out and had to be replaced with NVA regulars. Even North Vietnamese generals later admitted that the Tet Offensive was a massive tactical failure that nearly cost them everything, but miraculously turned into strategic victory by fooling the US domestic audience.

@abrahamdozer6273 But I never said that. Ukrainian counter-offensives are actual tactical defeats of Russia. Especially Kharkiv, it looked like a tornado had flown through a butcher shop. I had never seen unidentifiable chunks of meat laying on roads like they had fallen from the clouds. Russia keeps pursuing the war no matter what the Russian people say. The US was close to victory but the public pressured the government to stop. So despite the US pledging to back South Vietnam in case of invasion, internally it was decided that if enough time had passed until the next Northern offensive, they'd just leave. Entirely different situations.

@abrahamdozer6273 Muh both sides BS. There's nothing heroic here. Just facts. Supported by North Vietnamese commanders who had every reason to lie and hide the true cost of their strategic victory.
